Automatic registration failures are typically caused by poor contrast or laser over-exposure (halos). If a target surface is too glossy, the LiDAR sensor receives irregular intensity returns.

Optimization Checklist:

• Verify distance: Ensure the target size (e.g., OD150mm) is sufficient for the scan resolution at that range.
• Check incident angle: Avoid scanning targets at extreme grazing angles (keep within 45° if possible).
• Surface condition: Ensure the B&W pattern is free of dust, scratches, or moisture.
• Lighting: In pitch-black environments, ensure the scanner's internal or external LED provides enough illumination for the onboard camera.

Choosing between Aluminum and Carbon Fiber depends on your project's precision requirements and environmental conditions.

For long-term structural monitoring, Carbon Fiber (N66111 series) is essential because it does not expand or contract significantly with temperature changes, maintaining a constant geometric center.

Always ensure you have at least 3 targets visible between scan stations for a robust registration. For distance work, we recommend the ST003 series for its lightweight aluminum disc and high-visibility coating.

Carbon Fiber targets provide ultra-high stability with zero thermal expansion, making them ideal for high-precision monitoring in extreme outdoor conditions. Aircraft Aluminum offers good stability for general use, while PVC is suitable only for temporary setups.
